Description

The AMD Ryzen Threadripper 9960X desktop processor delivers 24 high-performance Zen 5 cores and 48 threads with a boost clock of up to 5.4 GHz to accelerate demanding professional workstation workloads. Built on a TSMC 4nm FinFET process node, this processor provides the raw computational power and system bandwidth needed to eliminate bottlenecks in complex creative and technical projects.

Next-generation Zen 5 architecture for complex multi-threaded workloads

The core of this workstation processor features 24 cores and 48 threads utilizing the Zen 5 architecture, codenamed Shimada Peak. This design relies on a 5-die package configuration with a TSMC 4nm FinFET process node for the CPU cores and a TSMC 6nm FinFET node for the I/O die. To keep the processing cores fed with data, the processor is equipped with a massive 152 MB of total cache, consisting of 128 MB of L3 cache and 24 MB of L2 cache. This massive cache pool reduces latency by keeping critical data closer to the execution units. With a base clock of 4.2 GHz and a boost clock of up to 5.4 GHz, the processor handles single-threaded tasks and massive parallel rendering jobs with equal efficiency. An unlocked multiplier allows for precise performance tuning using Precision Boost Overdrive, Precision Boost 2, and Curve Optimizer Voltage Offsets.

Massive PCIe 5.0 expansion and quad-channel DDR5 ECC memory bandwidth

For high-throughput professional systems, I/O capability is critical. The sTR5 platform provides 92 total PCIe 5.0 lanes, with 88 usable lanes directly accessible to the system. This massive lane count allows you to run multiple high-performance graphics cards, high-speed network interface cards, and dedicated capture hardware simultaneously without compromising on bandwidth. The quad-channel memory controller supports DDR5 RDIMM memory up to 6400 MT/s, delivering the memory bandwidth required for memory-intensive tasks like scientific simulations and large-scale video editing. Integrated Error-Correcting Code (ECC) memory support prevents data corruption by detecting and correcting single-bit memory errors in real time. Storage capabilities are further enhanced by native NVMe support, allowing for bootable RAID 0, 1, 5, and 10 arrays directly through the platform.

Engineered for sustained 350W TDP workloads on the sTR5 socket

Operating at a thermal design power (TDP) of 350W, this processor is built for sustained, heavy-duty processing cycles. It operates up to a maximum temperature (Tjmax) of 95°C, requiring a robust thermal management solution to maintain peak boost clocks under load. Because a thermal solution is not included with the processor, a high-performance liquid or air cooler designed for the sTR5 socket must be paired with this CPU. Connectivity on the processor itself includes four USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports and two SATA ports, giving motherboard designers direct high-speed routing options for external peripherals and legacy storage drives.

Enterprise-grade hardware security and three-year warranty protection

To protect sensitive intellectual property and ensure platform integrity, the processor integrates a suite of advanced security technologies. Hardware-enforced protection includes AMD Memory Guard, AMD Secure Processor, Windows Secure Boot, UEFI Secure Boot, and Windows Device Guard. These technologies work together to guard system memory against physical attacks and secure the boot process from unauthorised firmware modifications. Additionally, DASH support enables standard-based remote management for IT administrators in enterprise environments. AMD backs this processor with a 3-year warranty, ensuring long-term reliability and support for professional workstation environments.
