That temperature difference actually makes perfect sense — and for the Samsung 990 Pro specifically, 5–8°C cooler with a decent heatsink like Simplecom SA110 is exactly what I’d expect. You’ve basically demonstrated how effective even a aluminium heatsink can be on a high‑performance Gen4 NVMe drive.
They work well. Especially when doing large data transfers
Need care to fit, after all, SSDs are small & delicate. To get the best resultsI I peel off the labels on the SSDs, as I don’t feel they’d help cooling. The Samsung SSDs I’ve used have a thin copper cooling plate on the bottom which complements the heat-transfer pads of the heatsink nicely.

Any drive with components on the underside sits 1-2 mm above the connector in original CFI-1xxx PS5s when installed in the heatsink. Can’t connect the SSD without applying significant force and bending the drive’s PCB noticeably. Useless to me as a result. Shouldn’t be advertised as PS5 compatible.
