Just bought one of these to use for providing more storage to a Dell thin client running Ubuntu server.

Kept failing to detect drives when plugged in via USB-3, but worked with USB-2.

Despite online guides saying it’s likely the cable, I didn’t believe it, because… well, it’s the cable that came with the caddy, SURELY it’s good enough quality actually work with said caddy.

Nope. Found another cable about the house, used it… now drive works.

Poor form Volans

Plugged into my NAS and worked immediately without any issues. Has 2 x 3.5 inch 2TB HDDs installed primarily for data backup. These drives appeared in Windows file explorer as expected, in the NAS root directory. I appreciate that this unit has a toggle power switch, which can be left in the ON position. All my computer gear is connected to power via a smart plug. This means I can turn it on remotely or on a schedule, simply by activating the smart plug from an app. Has been operating now for several weeks and, given the price, very happy with this product and its features and performance.

I found this dual hdd dock to be well constructed.
It provides very fast hdd access using its solid usb ‘B’ 3.0 connector and cable.
It worked well to recover data from a pair of raid 0 linux drives.
