The enclosure works fine. But it is cheaply (rather than “exquisitely”) made. Only the base it metal and the rest is a plastic shell (but heat dissipation seems OK so far). Worth spending an extra $5 for an aluminium enclosure.
It’s easy to change HDDs – just slide off the top cover. Then there’s nothing solid securing the HDD – just the sliding top cover, which unclicks easily. This is convenient, and shouldn’t be an issue if you don’t move the enclosure much, but I think the enclosure could have positively secured the HDD while still being toolless. I wouldn’t confidently put this enclosure into a backpack every day.
So it’s sort of half way between a normal enclosure you screw a HDD into and one of those USB docks you plug a raw drive into vertically. The former is good moving a fixed HDD around, the latter is good for changing HDDs frequently in a fixed place. This enclosure is OK-ish at both, but you’d be better off with one or the other IMO.
I needed an externally powered HDD to connect to my videorecorder and this case and a 1Tb Barracoota proved ideal and work exactly as I had hopes
No tools or even a tech background for this item. Just put it together.
